It was six years in the making, but our repeated efforts to secure municipal funding for the nutrition center finally paid off! This year, the city council approved a line-item budget of $800 per month for San Yves.
Government funding for social projects in Honduras is hard to come by. There is not a lot of money to go around, and social projects don’t carry the same political weight or garner the same attention as infrastructure projects like building roads or schools.
We were excited in 2021 when Martha Puentes, a long-time friend and supporter of the nutrition center, won the mayor’s seat. Engagement from the local community is key to our success in Honduras, and we’re excited to have someone so passionate about improving social outcomes and showing commitment to the children of Yoro by this new line of financial support.
