Since our inception in 2018, we have been proud to play an integral role in the recovery of dozens of malnourished children through our technical support at the San Yves Infantile Nutrition Center.

Located in Yoro, Honduras, San Yves is a private non-profit organization that operates an in-patient recovery center for children suffering from severe malnutrition. San Yves coordinates with the local hospital and local healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality care for children during their recovery. Strong local institutions are instrumental for long term, sustainable impacts to take place.

As the only institution of its kind in the area, San Yves is a beacon of hope for many people in the surrounding communities and in many cases a second chance at life for the hundreds of children who have recovered there. Our collaboration with them has quickened their recovery process and made great strides in ensuring the long-term health of children once they are back home.

Recovering from severe malnutrition is a long, difficult road. Children in Yoro fortunate enough to make it to San Yves still face an uphill battle; lack of appetite and weak immune systems are commonplace, meaning it is not as straightforward as providing food. A full-time, 24/7 staff, in addition to various volunteers, is responsible for the well-being of the children, tracking their food intake and monitoring any sicknesses or complications that arise.

For children who do recover from malnutrition, the results are dramatic. Not only have they gained weight, but adequate nutrients have helped them fight off diseases, grow a full head of hair, heal old wounds, and develop their fine-motor skills. Most importantly: they feel (and look) great!
