Daniela's Journey

Daniela is from a small, remote indigenous community. For her parents, reaching the hospital is a daunting journey over five hours of travel on difficult roads. Because of this, and the fact that many children in their community looked just like Daniela, her parents didn’t believe medical care was necessary.

When Daniela became unresponsive due to severe dehydration, her parents finally made the trip. By the time she arrived at the nutrition center, her condition was critical, and her survival was uncertain. Over the next two months, she fought through multiple setbacks and three hospitalizations. Our nurses sat with her for over an hour at each meal, patiently encouraging every bite.

Today, Daniela is thriving. She is a beautiful, energetic two-year-old, with a full head of hair, healthy color in her cheeks, and a bright smile to share with everyone. Her recovery is a direct result of the care made possible by NutriFund supporters.
